**Garrett John Hedlund** (born September 3, 1984) is an American actor and musician known for his rugged charm, deep resonant voice, and versatile screen presence across Hollywood blockbusters and acclaimed independent cinema. Raised on a remote cattle farm in Wannaska, Minnesota, Hedlund moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, in his teens, where he took acting lessons before heading to Los Angeles at age eighteen. He made an immediate breakthrough in 2004, debuting as Patroclus in Wolfgang Petersen's epic *Troy* and starring as high school football player Don Billingsley in Peter Berg's *Friday Night Lights*. He quickly built momentum with leading roles in the vigilante drama *Four Brothers* (2005) and the fantasy adventure *Eragon* (2006). In 2010, Hedlund starred as Sam Flynn in Disney's sci-fi tentpole *Tron: Legacy* and demonstrated his musical range in the country drama *Country Strong*. He subsequently earned acclaim in auteur-driven cinema, notably as Dean Moriarty in *On the Road* (2012), the Coen brothers' *Inside Llewyn Davis* (2013), and Angelina Jolie's World War II drama *Unbroken* (2014). His performance as traumatized veteran Jamie McAllan in Dee Rees's period drama *Mudbound* (2017) garnered widespread critical praise.
